MMA Math & Martial Arts Fight Club
The MMA Fight Club is an afterschool BOYS program created by Kevin Tyraine Dolby EL created to promote:
-
Math Literacy
-
Self Defense through the Art Of Defense “52 Blocks”
-
Critical Thinking
-
Conflict Resolution
The afterschool program will be once or twice a week and will last an hour and a half to two hours.
The first 30 min will be allotted to work on any math homework that the students may currently have or spend time learning math concepts and “practical” math. The goal is to show how math
can be used in everyday life and how numbers will be used consistently though out one’s life.
The last hour will be used to practice the techniques of 52 block martial arts while learning how to
avoid conflict through conflict resolution techniques and the power of speaking in a manner to most avoid conflict.
The overall goal of this program is to promote math literacy and improve the overall math test scores in the urban community by showing numbers/math association and practice of math. We also hope to curb the violence in the urban communities and the school system through teaching conflict resolution techniques and how to ultimately defend one’s self if attacked.
52 Blocks teaches NO strikes (ie Punches/Kicks) we focus on blocking others from kicking and punching us through elbow and arm blocks, body movement and footwork.
